Priming The Pump Properly to Ensure Immediate Delivery
When changing your reservoir and infusion set remember to program a 5.0 units bolus before insertion until a drop of insulin appears at the end of the needle or cannula. This step is necessary to take up any slack between the driver arm and the reservoir plunger. If this step is forgotten insulin delivery may be delayed after the set is inserted.
If you are using a Sof-set®, it is advisable to give a bolus of 1/2 a unit after insertion to fill the empty space in the cannula once the introducer needle is withdrawn.
