OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter FAQ

Great news! We are pleased to announce that we have completed the first stage of the new OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter launch and are ready to start the second stage of this important launch.

By now, U.S. customers who own a MiniMed Paradigm® REAL-Time System (522 or 722 insulin pump models), or a Guardian® REAL-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring System, should have received a OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter at no charge.

As part of the second stage of this launch, we are now starting to send to U.S. customers who own a MiniMed Paradigm 512, 712, 515 or 715 model insulin pump a OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter at no charge. We expect to complete these shipments by August 30, 2008.

New Customers

New customers who purchase a MiniMed Paradigm REAL-Time System (522 or 722 insulin pump models) or the Guardian REAL-Time System in the U.S. can expect to receive a OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter as part of their order at no charge.

The OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter is exclusively certified by Medtronic to wirelessly communicate with MiniMed Paradigm insulin pumps and the Guardian REAL-Time System in the U.S.1 By wirelessly transmitting test results to MiniMed Paradigm® insulin pumps, bolus dosing is more accurate and easier for patients.2

The OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter uses OneTouch® Ultra® Test Strips, which are available from Medtronic Diabetes, as well as by mail order and from retail outlets.

If I purchase, upgrade or Pathway to a MiniMed Paradigm REAL-Time System or purchase the Guardian REAL-Time System today, will I get a OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter at no charge?

Yes, you can expect to receive a OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter as part of your order at no charge if you have not received one before. (Note: New Guardian REAL-Time System customers will receive their meter separately.)3

Where can I purchase test strips for my new OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter?

Customers can purchase their OneTouch® Ultra® Test Strips for the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter from Medtronic Diabetes, as well as by mail order and from retail outlets. Call us today at 1-866-948-6633, Option 2 to learn more about buying your strips from us.

When will I be able to purchase an additional OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter?

We are actively working with our meter partner, LifeScan, to make additional OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meters available for purchase. We expect to start selling these meters in November 2008.

The OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter makes bolus dosing with compatible MiniMed Paradigm insulin pumps more accurate and easier than before.2 Now, you can enjoy simplicity, convenience and confidence.

Is it true that other new meters work wirelessly with MiniMed Paradigm Insulin Pumps?

Other companies might say that their meter works wirelessly with MiniMed Paradigm Insulin Pumps, but the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter is the only new meter certified and tested by Medtronic for wireless communication with our products in the U.S.1

How will the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter be shipped?

United Parcel Service (UPS) is our method of shipment for current customers.

I prefer to receive my shipment from another delivery company, such as FedEx. Can you accommodate my request?

We're sorry, but UPS is the only carrier we have contracted with for shipments. We are unable to change the delivery method for your shipment.

I have an older model insulin pump (MiniMed Paradigm Model 511 or older). Do I get a new OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter?

We're sorry, but our older model insulin pumps (manufactured prior to MiniMed Paradigm 512 and 712 insulin pumps) are not capable of wirelessly communicating with the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter. If you upgrade to our current model MiniMed Paradigm REAL-Time insulin pump, you can expect to receive a OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter at no charge as part of your new system. Will the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter work with CareLink Personal software?

Yes. When you receive your new meter, you will also get detailed information on how to upload data from your OneTouch® UltraLink™ meter and your MiniMed Paradigm insulin pump to CareLink Personal software.

Can non-U.S. residents purchase a OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter?

Sorry, only customers living in the U.S. can get our OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter.

About Paradigm Link Meters

Do I have to switch to the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter from the Paradigm Link Meter (aka the "BD" meter" from Becton Dickinson)?

We hope you will give the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter a try. It is the newest addition to the OneTouch® Meter Family—the number one prescribed meter brand in the U.S.4 The Paradigm Link Meter will still wirelessly communicate with compatible MiniMed Paradigm insulin pumps (and the Guardian REAL-Time System); however, Medtronic will no longer sell the Paradigm Link Meter to its customers.

Am I required to return the Paradigm Link Meter when the OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter arrives?

No, you do not have to return your Paradigm Link Meter. Simply enjoy your new OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter—it is the newest addition to the long-trusted OneTouch® Meter Family.

How long will I be able to buy test strips for my Paradigm Link meter from Medtronic Diabetes?

Medtronic Diabetes will continue to sell test strips for the Paradigm Link Meter. However, we eventually expect to phase out these test strips from our product offerings.

How long should I continue using my test trips for my Paradigm Link meter before I switch to OneTouch® Ultra® test strips?

We recommend that you use your test strips for your Paradigm Link Meter until you receive your OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter.6

However, to get ready to use your OneTouch® UltraLink™ Meter, we encourage you to order your test strips in advance. Be sure to ask your doctor for a OneTouch® Ultra® Test Strip prescription today!

Why did Medtronic Diabetes choose to form an alliance with LifeScan?

We formed an alliance with LifeScan because our companies' missions are closely aligned—we both have highly-trusted brands and proven track records in offering high-quality products.

Existing contractual obligations preclude Medtronic from shipping products to patients under certain insurance plans.
