A day in my life with MiniMed Flex

Meet Lindsey: An on-the-go professional, frequent traveler and MiniMed FlexTM user living with type 1 diabetes

Some days begin at my kitchen table. Others begin in an airport security line before sunrise or me getting in my car to drive several hours.

Hi, I’m Lindsey, a business manager at MiniMed, and my job takes me everywhere – from virtual meetings at home to visits with healthcare professionals across multiple states. My days rarely follow the same schedule, and living with type 1 diabetes adds another layer of planning to everything I do. I’m used to thinking ahead — but I don't want diabetes to be the thing that determines what my day looks like or take my attention away from the people, places and experiences in front of me.

That's why the MiniMed Flex system has become such an important part of how I manage my diabetes. It works quietly in the background, keeping me supported, so I can focus on tackling my day.

🌅 Starting the day strong: Morning diabetes management with MiniMed Flex

My alarm goes off, and before my feet even hit the floor, I take a quick look at my glucose on my phone. It’s a small step, but it helps me start the day with confidence. From there, I can focus on everything else - packing my bag, grabbing coffee before my first meeting, or getting to the airport on time.

For people living with type 1 diabetes, mornings can set the tone for everything that follows. When I'm traveling, there are already enough things to think about — boarding times, rental cars, delayed flights, and changing time zones. Being able to see my real-time glucose information conveniently right from my phone, makes checking in feel like a natural part of my routine. I can see where I stand, make a decision if I need to, and keep moving.

🥗 Staying focused at work: Meetings, miles and meals on the go

Once the day gets started, it usually moves quickly. Most mornings are filled with meetings, presentations, and conversations with healthcare professionals or my team. When I’m focused on the person in front of me, I don’t want to be constantly wondering about what my glucose is doing.

SmartGuardTM technology works in the background, continuously adjusting and correcting my blood glucose levels†. I can also quickly peek at my phone to check my glucose and make informed decisions without stepping away from a meeting or interrupting a conversation. That way, I can focus on my work and the people I'm there to support.

When I'm ready to eat and it's time to bolus, it doesn't matter where I am. MiniMed Flex makes it easy to do discreetly from my phone without taking out my pump. My phone is usually already close by, so it feels simple and natural whether I’m sitting in a conference room, eating at a restaurant or waiting at the gate.

For professionals managing type 1 diabetes in the workplace, this makes a meaningful difference during a busy workday. Diabetes is always with me, but it doesn't have to be the center of every moment.

✈️ When the day doesn’t go according to plan

Travel has a way of disrupting even the best-planned routine. A flight gets delayed. Lunch turns into a snack. Dinner happens hours later than expected. There are also moments when I underestimate my carbs, bolus later than planned or get distracted and occasionally just forget.

Meal DetectionTM technology gives me an added layer of support during those moments. It detects rapid rises in sensor glucose and can automatically deliver a correction dose if I miss a bolus or underestimate my carbs.

It doesn’t mean I stop thinking about my diabetes or taking an active role in my care. But it helps when real life doesn’t follow the schedule I had in mind.

That’s especially important to me because flexibility isn’t just about being able to travel. It’s about having technology that can help support me when the day changes around me.

🌆 Back home – and back to the rest of my life

Eventually, the meetings wrap up, the laptop closes or the plane lands. But the day doesn’t end when work does—there’s still life waiting on the other side. That means a walk with my dog, a family dinner, heading to the gym, or just relaxing.

During this time, MiniMed Flex is still there working in the background quietly adjusting and correcting my sugar levels - no extra steps, no interruptions — just seamlessly supporting me while I get back to the parts of my day that have nothing to do with work – and ideally, very little to do with diabetes. For me, that’s one of the most valuable things about the system. It doesn’t ask my life to revolve around it. It fits into the life I’m already living.

🌙 Ending the day with peace of mind: Bedtime and ready to do it all again tomorrow

Before turning out the lights, I take one last look at my glucose on my phone. Knowing how I'm doing helps me end the day with greater peace of mind and prepare for tomorrow. But I also know the system will continue working while I sleep. Overnight glucose management can be one of the most anxiety-inducing aspects of having diabetes. But knowing my system is working through the night sets me at ease.

Tomorrow might start at home or in another airport. It might include a full day of meetings, a long drive or a meal that happens much later than planned. Whatever the day brings, I feel more prepared to meet it.

💙 Every day is more than diabetes

Living with type 1 diabetes has taught me to plan ahead, adapt quickly and keep going when things don’t unfold exactly as expected. My work takes me to different places, puts me in front of different people and rarely follows the exact schedule I planned.

MiniMed Flex is the technology for me. It’s flexible enough to keep up with my unpredictable schedule, and smart enough to give me the information I need without taking over.

Because every day should be about more than diabetes. It should be about the people we meet, the places we go, and the moments that matter most. And with MiniMed Flex, I finally feel like I have technology that fits into my life so I can focus on what matters.
